How to Change Port Name on Brocade Switches Using CLI

Login into switch Command line interface using Putty

CMD:
portname <slot>/<portnumber> -n <PortName>

Ex: if you want to rename the portname on blade 1 port 1
portname 1/1 -n newhost_hba1

    I don't know if it applies to all Brocades, but on the MLX, the command "portname" is not recognized. Per CLI ?, I used "port-name". The "-n" was not required.

    (config-if-e10000-2/4)#portname ?
    Unrecognized command

    (config-if-e10000-2/4)#port-name 2/4 csw1.at2, ten 2/4, A, twtelecom, IX, M13117066
    telnet@csw1.at2(config-if-e10000-2/4)#

  3. Thank you! I was using the "-n" parm on portname and was tearing my hair out!! Thanks for this page. I am setting up a lab with 15 year-old IBM SAN-16B fiber switches (internally they are a Brocade 300).
