BOOT FROM SAN Implementation

Configuring EMC CLARiiON arrays for boot from SAN
        1.   Creating the initiator record
            1. Right-click the storage array and then select Connectivity Status from the drop-down menu.
            2. Click Create.
 3. In the Create Initiator Record window:
a. Enter the HBA WWNN (node name) followed by the WWPN (port name). For our example, the WWNN is 20:00:00:00:00:44:c4:b1 and the WWPN is 20:00:00:00:12:34:56:78.
b. Select the SP - port to which the host will connect.
c. Select the CLARiiON Open initiator type and choose the proper failover mode for your host failover software and CLARiiON FLARE software.
! IMPORTANT
EMC strongly recommends failover mode 4 (ALUA active/active), if supported with your CLARiiON FLARE software and the host multipathing software that you intend to install.
d. Enter a host name and IP address.
                        e. Click OK.
4. Repeat these steps for each HBA that will be connected to the CLARiiON. Once your server is registered with the array, you can create a Storage Group with a LUN to be presented to the server.
       2.   Creating a Storage Group and boot LUN for your Boot from SAN server.
1.    Right-click on Storage Groups and select Create Storage Group.
2.    Type the name you wish to use for the Storage Group. For example, Boot_From_SAN_0.
3.    To add your boot LUN to the Storage Group, right-click on the Storage Group name and choose Select LUNs.
4.    Select the LUNs tab.
a. From the Available LUNs list, select the LUN that you wish to use as a boot LUN.
b. Click Add to add it to the storage group.
5. Click Apply to save the changes to the Storage Group.

6. Add your Host server to the Storage Group to associate the LUN to the Host. From the Storage Group Properties window, select the Hosts tab.
