Configuring EMC CLARiiON arrays for
boot from SAN
1. Creating
the initiator record
1. Right-click the storage array and then select Connectivity
Status from the drop-down menu.
2. Click Create.
2. Click Create.
3. In the Create Initiator Record window:
a. Enter the HBA WWNN (node name)
followed by the WWPN (port name). For our example, the WWNN is
20:00:00:00:00:44:c4:b1 and the WWPN is 20:00:00:00:12:34:56:78.
b. Select the SP - port to which the
host will connect.
c. Select the CLARiiON Open initiator
type and choose the proper failover mode for your host failover software and
CLARiiON FLARE software.
! IMPORTANT
EMC strongly recommends failover mode 4
(ALUA active/active), if supported with your CLARiiON FLARE software and the
host multipathing software that you intend to install.
d. Enter a host name and IP address.

Click OK.
4. Repeat these steps for each HBA that will be connected to the CLARiiON. Once your server is registered with the array, you can create a Storage Group with a LUN to be presented to the server.

Creating a Storage Group and boot LUN
for your Boot from SAN server.
1.
Right-click on Storage Groups and select Create
Storage Group.
2.
Type the name you wish to use for the
Storage Group. For example, Boot_From_SAN_0.

To add your boot LUN to the Storage Group,
right-click on the Storage Group name and choose Select
LUNs.

Select the LUNs
tab.
a.
From the Available LUNs list,
select the LUN that you wish to use as a boot LUN.
b.
Click Add to add it to
the storage group.
5.
Click Apply to save the
changes to the Storage Group.
6. Add your Host server to the Storage
Group to associate the LUN to the Host. From the Storage
Group Properties window, select the Hosts
tab.
